Victor Huizar Hernandez, affectionately known as "Gordo," was born on August 9, 1947, in Phoenix, Arizona. He left this world peacefully at his home on May 16, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. His spirit, characterized by warmth and kindness, touched the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know him.
A proud graduate of Glendale Union High School, Victor’s journey took him from the classrooms of his youth to remarkable experiences in the US Army, where he served his country with honor. After completing his military service, he embarked on a life filled with adventure and love. On November 24, 1968, he celebrated a significant milestone by marrying his beloved wife, Maryhelen Hernandez, in a ceremony that marked the beginning of a beautiful partnership that flourished over the decades.
Victor's passions were many, but none shone brighter than his love for traveling. Alongside Wila ♥, he ventured into the country in their RV, creating cherished memories and witnessing the beauty of life on the open road. Those journeys were not merely trips; they were opportunities for connection, stories, and laughter, reflecting the joy that he brought to all who accompanied him.
He is survived by a loving family who will continue to carry on his legacy. His wife, Maryhelen, remains a pillar of strength and love, his stepfather Florentino Castillo Jr, while his brothers, Richard and Robert, and sister, Roberta, hold dear the memories of their time together, his stepfather Victor was a proud father to his daughter, Melissa A. Hernandez, and son, Eric V. Hernandez. As a grandfather, he delighted in the company of his grandchildren: Daniel, Xavier, Jacob, and Brianna, Sage, along with Olivia, Aliyah, Ezekiel, Serenity, Romeo, Izin, and Evelyn. They were the light of his life, and his affections for them knew no bounds.
Victor is preceded in death by his father, Richard Hernandez Senior, and mother, Adelaide "Adela Castillo". Though they rest in peace, their love and guiding presence will forever echo in the hearts of those who loved him.
In reflecting on the life of Gordo, one can only marvel at the essence of a man who embodied love, warmth, and resilience. His memory will live on in the stories shared at family gatherings and the spark in the eyes of his grandchildren. Though he may no longer walk among us, Victor Huizar Hernandez will forever remain a source of inspiration and love for all who had the privilege of knowing him.
