Shirly Ann (Bushong) Engquist

Shirey Engquist, 79, of Phoenix Arizona, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 14, 2025, due to complications from dementia and overall health issues.

Shirly was born to James Arvie Bushong and Alice Garman on January 11, 1946, in Mattoon, Ill. She attended Sullivan High School and graduated in 1964.

She attended Apostolic Bible Institute where she met the love of her life, Floyd Engquist. The were quickly engaged and married on August 19, 1965, in Sullivan, Ill.

Shirly and Floyd pastored several small churches before founding Bible Truth Center (later renamed Grace Tabernacle) in 1972 in the city of Janesville, Wisconsin. There they raised their two sons, Douglas Anthony Engquist and Darin Duane Engquist. Shirly and Floyd retired as Senior Pastors in 1995.

Shirly is survived by her two sons, Douglas and Darin, all of Phoenix, Arizona. She is also survived by her siblings Gaye Adrian and Derald Wooley. She was blessed with six grandchildren, all surviving. She was preceded in death by her parents, James Bushong and Alice Wooley and her husband, Floyd Engquist.

Shirley was a sweet, kind and loving soul who never had a negative word against anyone. Her smile would light up any room. She played organ and sang in church for most of her life and supported her husband in ministry.

She loved her two boys and always believed in them. She was the best mom anyone could ever ask for. She was also a wonderful and loving grandmother to her beautiful grandchildren.

There will be a special Memorial Service at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona at 2929 E Pinnacle Peak Rd, Phoenix, AZ 85024 On March 13, 2025, at 1:00PM. There will also be a special reception held for Shirley at Christ Temple Church 10444 N 35th Ave, Glendale, AZ 85308 on Thursday March 13, 2025, from 2-4PM.
