It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Roscoe Shines, a beloved soul who graced this world from July 30, 1942, until September 28, 2025. Roscoe, born in Memphis, Tennessee, was not only a passionate Hospitality Specialist but also a devoted Christian who lived his life in accordance with his faith. He was a shining example of joy and positivity, always placing the happiness of those around him above his own.
He is preceded in death by his siblings John Ned Shines, Ella Mae Shines, Rachel Elizabeth Shines, Lewis Shines, Nathan Shines, and Granderson Shines.
Roscoe's dedication to his country was profound; as a proud U.S. Army Veteran, he courageously served during the Vietnam War. This experience shaped his character and instilled in him a deep sense of pride for his service. He remained forever grateful for the lessons learned and the camaraderie shared with his fellow soldiers.
Education played a significant role in Roscoe's upbringing, having graduated from Manassas High School in Memphis. Following his schooling, he would go on to lead a life filled with love, laughter, and countless cherished memories. Roscoe had a vibrant spirit, best known for his happy, jolly demeanor, infectious smile, and impeccable sense of humor. He was truly the life of the party, effortlessly brightening the days of all who crossed his path.
He found solace in simple pleasures, with a deep fondness for fishing and the allure of California, which he visited often. In his quieter moments, you could find him reading a good book, solving puzzles, or enjoying a classic television show. His love of the arts extended to music, where he delighted in singing, bringing melodies to life with joy.
Roscoe cherished every moment spent in the embrace of nature. Ham-Hocks and greens, was his favorite "go to" meal that he enjoyed the ease of their preparation and great flavor. His warm and inviting personality created a strong bond with his family and friends, ensuring that his spirit would live on in the hearts of those he loved the most.
Roscoe also leaves behind a cherished group of nieces and nephews—Cynthia Cranford, the Carroline Shines-Edwards (Fayette), Wilma Shines, Adam Shines, and Bryant Christopher Shines, who was also his devoted caretaker.
While Roscoe has departed from this physical realm, his legacy of love and laughter will continue to resonate within all who knew him. The memory of his kind spirit and unwavering faith serves as a reminder of the joy we can all bring to one another's lives. He passed peacefully in his sleep, leaving behind a world that undoubtedly feels a little dimmer without his brilliant light. Rest in peace, dear Roscoe; your spirit will forever remain in our hearts.
