Richard "Dick" Hammersmith

Richard “Dick” Lee Hammersmith, 78 of Gilbert, Arizona passed away on January 7, 2025. Richard was born on November 3, 1946, in Leavenworth, Kansas. His parents were Isabel D Meis and Clarence M Hammersmith. Richard attended Immaculata High School and married Margaret “Peggy Lynn” Jerrit on June 5, 1964. The couple were married for 59 years.

Richard learned hard work beginning from a young age with farming, to steel work, bridge construction, commercial/residential contracting, home remodeling to real estate. He continued to have a passion to work and sharing work skills so he would take on shifts at Home Depot just to be in his element.

Richard never knew a stranger, if you ever got to meet him you would believe he was one of your good friends.

Richard is survived by his devoted children Shelly Hammersmith-Brooks (Wes), Leavenworth Ks, Amy Yallaly (Jeff), Kansas City, Mo and Jason Hammersmith Gilbert, Az as well as 5 grandchildren David Schmidt lll (Erin), Heather Schmidt, Sarah Schmidt, Ashleigh Yallaly, Aiden Hammersmith and DJ Hammersmith. Also great grand children Austin Schmidt and Ty David Schmidt. He is also survived by family members from Utah.
