Lawrence Pipkins, a beloved figure in the tight-knit community of Avondale, Arizona, succumbed to a long illness on November 16, 2025, at the age of 89. Born on April 14, 1936, in Eagar, Arizona, Lawrence lived a life filled with generosity, love, and a spirit that touched many.
As a dedicated bar manager in Holbrook, Arizona, and a skilled scaffold installation specialist in construction, Lawrence exemplified hard work and integrity throughout his career. His commitment to service also extended to his role as a reserve firefighter, where he selflessly dedicated himself to the safety and wellbeing of others. He proudly met and raised his family with his wife in Holbrook, a testament to his deep roots and the values instilled in him from a young age.
Lawrence's presence in Avondale was cherished, particularly in the last few decades of his life. Known for his loving, caring, and giving personality, he found immense joy in the company of children, spending countless happy hours playing dominos with his daughter Mary and his grandchildren. His passion for simple pleasures was evident in his fondness for Quarter Pounder hamburgers from McDonald’s and enchiladas from Zamora's Mexican Food in Old Town Avondale. He had a particular affinity for scratching lottery tickets and indulging in sweets, often sharing coffee and laughter with his granddaughter Elizabeth.
Surrounded by his loving family at the time of his passing, Lawrence leaves behind a large and devoted family, including his children, Mary Louise Battiest, Lawrence Pipkins Jr., Kimberly Bea, Consuelo H. Rascon, Elizabeth Pipkins, Gary Breed, Benjamin Breed, Minnie Mae Breed, Carol Breed, Karissa Durang, and Monica Moore. His legacy will live on through many, many grandchildren from the Ventura, Arceneaux, Trevino, Pipkins, Bea, Durang, Herrera, Breed, Acosta, and Ramirez families—all of whom carry forward the lessons of love and kindness he imparted.
Though he is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Aurelia Pipkins, and stepsons Franklin, Diane, Craig, and Eric Breed, as well as his parents, Mildred and Enos Pipkins, Lawrence’s spirit and the memories created will remain alive in the hearts of those who knew him.
A visitation to honor Lawrence's life will take place on December 5, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Avenidas Funeral Chapel in Avondale, AZ, allowing family and friends to come together to celebrate the indelible mark he left on all of our lives. Lawrence Pipkins will be missed deeply, but his legacy of love, laughter, and community will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.
