Joseph Daniel Tellez Jr., a steadfast beacon of warmth and kindness, departed this life on August 4, 2025, in his beloved Phoenix, surrounded by the cherished embrace of family. Born on April 12, 1961, he lived a life marked by profound dedication to his family and community.
A proud graduate of Carl Hayden High School, class 1979, Joseph was not only known for his academic endeavors but also for his prowess on the football field as a varsity player for the Carl Hayden Falcons. His spirit of sportsmanship and camaraderie would continue throughout his life, embodying the very essence of a “would give you the shirt off his back” kind of man. A gentle soul, he strove to avoid confrontation and was fiercely protective of those he loved, forging bonds that would resonate through the hearts of many.
Professionally, Joseph spent his career with Motorola and Freescale Semiconductor, where he dedicated countless hours in service to his craft. Even in retirement, his legacy of hard work and integrity inspired those around him, establishing him as a figure of respect and admiration within his field.
Among his many interests, Joseph found his joy in music, especially, in sharing his deep, resonant voice with audiences as part of his childhood band, “The Travelin High.” The passion he exhibited in singing and performing was not merely a pastime; it was a celebration of life itself. His love for old school funk music filled the hearts of family and friends, echoing memories that will forever linger.
His interests extended into the realms of sports and leisure as well. A devoted fan of the Raiders, he delighted in both watching games and coaching football. His enthusiasms transitioned into meaningful moments spent collecting sports cards and enjoying cinematic adventures with his family, all while enriching the lives of those fortunate enough to call him a friend or relative.
Joseph’s life was enveloped by the vibrant colors of silver and black, a testament to his unwavering support for his beloved football team, and framed by the cherished traditions of gathering over delicious meals at “Bitz-ee Mama's” Mexican Food. He famously adored anything and everything that involved his family, relishing adventures and creating lasting memories together.
He is survived by his mother, Aurora Tellez; his brother, Ken Tellez; and his children: Sonya, Andrea (Robert), Joey, Miguel (Jessie), Gabriel, and Cristina. His legacy will be honored by his grandchildren: Ramon, Mercedes, Raymond, Robert, Sophia, Laila, Marisela, Arriah, Rion, Evangeline, Gabriel, and Isabel, who carry forward the enduring love and values he instilled in them.
Joseph will be missed immensely, but he is now reunited with his loving wife, Rebecca Tellez, and his father, Joseph Manuel Tellez Sr., in eternal peace.
