Gilbert Castro, affectionately known as "Bear," was born on January 21, 1955, in Superior, Arizona, and passed away on May 2, 2025, in Phoenix, Arizona. He was a beacon of strength and love, leaving behind a remarkable legacy that will forever echo in the hearts of his family and friends.

For 30 years, Gilbert dedicated himself to a fulfilling career at Adobe Air, where his contributions were greatly valued. In pursuit of new horizons, he later went back to school to earn his Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). His commitment to lifelong learning reflects the essence of his character—forever striving to improve himself and embrace new experiences.

In 1974, Gilbert married Sylvia M. Castro, a union blessed with love that thrived for 51 years. Their journey began in Phoenix, where they met serendipitously while Sylvia was walking her dog. Together, they created a life filled with shared dreams, laughter, and resilience. Gilbert's dedication to family was unwavering; he enjoyed every moment spent fishing with his sons and grandchildren, embracing the great outdoors while delightfully strolling through his neighborhood and nearby parks, often earning the playful title of “walking fool” from Sylvia when he resisted rest during illness.

A man with a zest for life, Gilbert found joy in the simple pleasures—eating tacos, listening to his beloved “oldies,” and exploring casinos with Sylvia. Even during tough times, he would share lighthearted reassurances with her, insisting that his illness was not as grave as it seemed, all to make one more excursion possible.

Gilbert's passing at the age of 70 came after a brave battle with cancer, which he fought valiantly for many years. Surrounded by the unyielding love of his family, he faced his final moments with the same courage that defined his life.

He is mourned by his cherished family, including his mother, Mary Vidal; brothers, Joe Castro Jr. and Rudy Castro; sister, Debbie Castro; and his beloved children: Gilbert Castro Jr., married to JāMe Castro, and Albert Castro, married to Beatriz Castro. He was also a proud grandfather to Alexa Castro, Simon Castro, and Adora Castro.

Gilbert is predeceased by his father, Joe Castro; brother, Jesse Castro; and sister, Dorothy Castro, who together with him created a rich tapestry of memories that will forever linger in the hearts of those who knew him.

A service celebrating the life of Gilbert Castro will be held on May 10, 2025, at Avenidas Funeral Chapel in Avondale, Arizona, commencing at 11:00 AM, followed by a heartfelt Celebration of Life at Gilbert Jr. & JāMe's residence later that afternoon.

As we remember Bear, let us carry forth his spirit of kindness, gratitude, and love for family—the values that defined his life and inspired all who were privileged to know him. His journey may have come to a close, but the love he shared and the memories he crafted will continue to flourish, connecting us now and forevermore.
