Francisco Esquipula Herrera, affectionately known as the "Cookie Man," departed this world suddenly and unexpectedly on July 19, 2025, in his beloved hometown of Phoenix, Arizona. Born on December 4, 1970, Francisco was a life filled with warmth, joy, and an unwavering passion for the things he loved.
As a dedicated employee of UHaul for eleven years, Francisco's presence was felt far and wide, and his contributions to the team were immeasurable. He approached life with a relentless enthusiasm that endeared him to colleagues and friends alike, leaving an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to cross his path.
A vivid spirit with a penchant for the vibrant—a fitting descriptor when one reflects upon his favorite color, blue—Francisco thrived on experiences rich in flavor, often delighting in a culinary journey that celebrated the vast world of food he loved so dearly. His heart danced to the rhythm of all kinds of music, as he found solace and happiness in the sounds that surrounded him.
His interests extended beyond the plate and melody; Francisco was a steadfast sports aficionado whose allegiance lay with the San Francisco 49ers, the Los Angeles Dodgers, and the Los Angeles Lakers. Whether cheering at a game or engaging in spirited debates over team performances, his enthusiasm was infectious, bringing friends and family together in celebration of their shared passions.
Francisco’s joy for life manifested in countless ways, most notably through travels that struck a chord with his spirit. He reveled in the sunny delight of California, cherishing each moment spent at Disneyland, where memories flowed like laughter in the air.
At the heart of Francisco’s world was his cherished family. Surrounded by the love of his girlfriend of twenty years, Lorraine McKinney; his sister, Bernadette F. Herrera; his son, Gerard Herrera; and his grandmother, Lillie S. Herrera, his legacy will resonate through the generations. His cherished Aunt Mary H. Herrera and Cristina Eichner, along with a cohort of nieces and nephews too numerous to enumerate, form a vibrant tapestry of relationships that bear testament to the love he cultivated throughout his life.
He is preceded in death by his dear mother, Jennie S. Herrera, whose nurturing spirit undoubtedly lives on through him and the many lives he touched.
As friends and family gather to honor his memory at Avenidas Funeral Chapel in Avondale, Arizona on August 2, 2025, they will share in a visitation from 1:00 PM, followed by a rosary at 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM.
Francisco Esquipula Herrera's journey may have taken a sudden turn, but the essence of who he was—a genuine spirit full of love and laughter—will remain alive in the hearts of those who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy steeped in joy, sport, and adventure, reminding us all to savor each moment and embrace life with open arms, just as he did.
