Esther H. Funk, a cherished matriarch and devoted homemaker, gracefully left this world on April 18, 2025, in Phoenix, Arizona, surrounded by the warmth and love of her family. Born on July 12, 1946, in San Antonio, Texas, Esther embodied strength and resilience, her character shaped by the vibrant culture of her birthplace and the life experiences she embraced wholeheartedly.

Esther devoted herself to her role as a homemaker, a vocation she approached with unwavering passion and grace. She skillfully led the delicate art of stock arranging, creating spaces of beauty and warmth for her family. Her nurturing spirit cultivated a loving home, where laughter and togetherness flourished.

On Valentine's Day in 1997, Esther joyfully wed her beloved husband, Freddrick Funk. Their union stood as a testament to love, companionship, and unwavering support, as they navigated life’s journey hand in hand until his passing.

A woman of simple pleasures, Esther delighted in the nuances of life. Her favorite color, burgundy, often adorned her surroundings, while her palate was tantalized by the delights of “Pete’s” burritos and the world-famous “Zamora’s” green chili burritos. She savored moments spent curled up on the couch, immersed in her favorite western shows, a source of comfort that mirrored her affectionate nature. Above all, her heart held a special place for her beloved San Antonio, where the echoes of her youthful days lingered.

Education in Esther’s life came through the invaluable "School of Life," imparting wisdom that nurtured her spirit and enriched her relationships. She found particular joy in her family, in whom she invested her heart's desires. Survived by her son Rene Gonzales, her daughter Katie Hernandez, and her son Johnny Ruiz, Esther leaves behind a lineage that will carry forth her legacy of love and dedication. Her grandchildren— Daniel, Matthew, Malorie, RJ, Adrianna, Brianna, Gabby, and Devin. Her great grandchildren — Alynna, Dean, and Vinny — were the jewels of her heart, and she took tremendous pride in each of their accomplishments.

Esther’s departure has left an irreplaceable void, and her loss will be deeply felt by all who knew and loved her. She has been reunited with her parents, Francisco and Cayetana Hernandez, and now rests peacefully alongside her beloved husband, Freddrick Funk.

In honoring Esther H. Funk, we celebrate a life richly lived, characterized by a profound capacity for love, an unyielding dedication to family, and an appreciation for the simple joys that life presented her.
