Alfred Moroyoqui Martinez went home to be with the Lord on February 17, 2025. Alfred was born on August 5, 1945, to parents Alfredo and Dolores Martinez, in Laveen, Arizona.
Alfred graduated from South Mountain High School and proudly served his country in the U.S. Army where he received a National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and a U.S. Army Marksmanship badge (Rifle M-14). Alfred is proud of his Pascua Yaqui heritage, is a member of the Veterans American Legion Post 124 and recently received a Certificate of Honor from the Pascua Yaqui Tribe Veterans Affairs Office, in recognition and grateful appreciation for serving in the United States Army.
Alfred worked for Marco Crane company as a crane operator and shared a scary incident he experienced while driving a crane on U.S. Highway 60, in the Superior mountains, the crane brakes failed, but thankfully he was able to coast to safety. Alfred also worked for First Interstate in building maintenance, drove a company truck, enjoyed meeting new people and working with the staff at the branch offices. Alfred attended mechanic school, where he used his talents as an enjoyed hobby to work on his historical classic car collection.
Alfred married his beautiful bride, Gloria on February 12, 1983, and happily welcomed her daughter, Liza along with furry family member, Azul (Bo-Bo), a Siamese kitty to his home, joined by his two dogs, Nita and Gino. Alfred and Gloria loved their home, working in the yard, planting flowers, trees, having barbeques and sitting outside enjoying the weather, especially when it rained. Alfred recently built a beautiful patio deck in their backyard and dedicated it to his "Baby Doll", Gloria. Alfred and Gloria are now celebrating 42 years of marriage, together forever with the Lord. Alfred loves the Lord, is a born-again Christian believer and became a member of Gospel Echoes Bible Church in 1982. Family was very important to Alfred, and he loved spending time with them and enjoyed gatherings, with a "good spread" of food, laughter and music.
Alfred is predeceased by his beloved bride of 42 years, Gloria Briones Martinez (2/11/25). He is survived by his stepdaughter, Liza Licano, Brothers: Joe (Bonnie) Martinez, Hector (Susan) Martinez and Archie Martinez. Sisters: Nellie Castro, Isabel Carpena, Mary Dimas and Justina Martinez, along with many nieces and nephews.
Alfred will be especially remembered for the delicious homemade salsa he made and enjoyed sharing with family and friends. Alfred loved the 50's era, music and loved to dance. He was always eager to strike up a conversation no matter where he was, leaving a lasting impression on everyone he met. Alfred had a great sense of humor, enjoyed making people laugh, always the life of the party and will be truly missed by all.
A Celebration of Life for Alfred will be held on Sunday, March 30th, 2025, at 12:00 Noon at Guadalupe Mercado, 9201 S. Avenida del Yaqui, Guadalupe, Arizona
